What is an allergy?

An allergy is called a pandemic of the 21st century, although they have known about it for a long time. Allergy is an atypical, inadequate reaction of our immune system to seemingly ordinary substances that people come into contact with and which should not be perceived as dangerous to the body (for example, food, the environment, tissues, chemicals, animals, plants). Such substances are called allergens. You can often hear (especially from the media) an allergy to ragweed, an allergy to the sun, a food allergy.

How is allergy manifested?

Allergens entering the body become the target of the immune system, and this causes an allergic reaction that can be local (at the place of action), for example, an allergy to a mosquito bite or generalized (when the respiratory and cardiovascular systems are connected), for example, an allergy to a bee sting.

What does an allergy look like?

Allergy symptoms are very variable - from swelling, redness of the skin and a rash (skin allergy) to vomiting, diarrhea, suffocation and anaphylactic shock. It is well known that residents of megacities meet with her more often, but recently, allergic diseases have become more frequent in rural areas, due to the uncontrolled use of herbicides, fertilizers and a very adverse environmental situation in general.

Urgency of the allergy problem

According to statistics, more than 150 million Europeans suffer from chronic allergic diseases, and according to forecasts, by 2025 every second European will have some kind of allergic problem, such as allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, bronchial asthma and skin diseases - eczema, atopic dermatitis and urticaria from which more and more people suffer.
A more serious problem than allergies in adults is the problem of childhood allergies. Over the past 20 years, the prevalence of this pathology has especially increased. Moreover, in most cases, the allergy proceeds according to the immediate type.
